We’re looking for a Co-Lead for Headquarters (HQ) to team up with our current co-lead, Corey. HQ is the heartbeat of SideBurn, serving as the go-to place for radios, ice, volunteer check-in, and essential information like weather, Haya road conditions, and drug safety. It’s also a friendly face that can connect attendees with the right person. HQ operates daily, ensuring the burn runs smoothly and keeping everyone safe and informed.
You’ll work with a supportive team, including shift supervisors and HIVE producers, with scheduled off-call times to make sure no one is overwhelmed. Communication and honesty are essential; we take care of each other. If you like being quietly in charge, love spreadsheets more than you should, and enjoy being the calm voice while the rest of camp erupts into glitter and improv logistics, read on.
Time Commitment
HQ operates daily between 5:30 am and midnight, with shifts lasting approximately four hours. Each shift is staffed by two to four people, plus an on-call shift supervisor.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and coordinate the HQ crew with compassion and calm.
- Run some shift supervisor shifts during the event (schedule coordinated with the team).
- Set up HQ before the event and close shop with final inventory count on the last day.
- Manage all ice transactions.
- Triage questions and direct them to the right team.
- Be available and responsive while on-call and arrive sober and ready for your shift.
- Step in to cover shifts when needed, with the support of your team.
Who We’re Looking For
- Organized, dependable, and calm under pressure.
- A clear, patient communicator who can give concise instructions.
- Comfortable using Excel or Google Sheets (no expert skills required).
- Willing to learn radio basics.
- Able to problem-solve in the moment and ask for help when needed.
- Ready to step in when a shift needs coverage and to call for backup when necessary.
- Sober and focused while on-call or during supervisory shifts.
Perks
- You’ll be at the heart of the action, hearing all the stories and the best (and worst) camp gossip.
- Connect with every department and be the person who helps keep the event running smoothly.
- Valuable leadership experience for future roles and earn some social capital along the way.
