SideBurn is run entirely by volunteers and relies on the effort committed by individuals and groups to make it possible. All ticket holders are asked to volunteer for at least one volunteer shift. Volunteering your time is a great way to get involved and meet new people.

If you have any questions about volunteering, where to go, what to do, or anything else, visit HIVE to see the event schedule and sign up for any available shifts we may have.
Volunteer signup can be found by visiting our Volunteer Portal. Each volunteer department listed has a description of what is involved, accessibility factors, and if the shift is family-friendly (for children 8+ or 14+). All minors must be accompanied by their caregiver while volunteering. If you have already signed up for a shift, we will have all the schedules and information on the volunteer shifts, including open volunteer shifts, at HIVE. We will also send an email to everyone before the event information regarding the shifts you have signed up for.
Starting Your Shift
Please arrive at HIVE 15-20 minutes before your shift is scheduled to start so you can sign in, grab a radio if needed, and make it to your department area on time.
In each department, there is a “How To” binder with a description of your role and the expectations of your shift, a guide on what to do in key situations, and important information such as:
- Sober Shift Policy (some shifts or departments require sobriety)
- Volunteer Code of Conduct
- Volunteer Harassment & Violence Policy
- How to use radios (if applicable), and more.
