Big Top: A Towering Effigy of Light, Color, and Celebration by Karl Demel & Rich Martin

Embrace joy and freedom of self-expression through a massive interactive structure. Dare to climb Big Top’s guts and peer above the festival landscape. Bands of twisting colour and strings of flags bath Big Top in shimmering lights. The core is open from the earth to the sky by day, and lit in a rainbow kaleidoscope by night.

The silhouette will be seen from all corners of sideburn and perhaps the whole county when we light it up and burn it down on Saturday night. Big Top may only be in existence for 3 days but he will live on forever in our festival hearts. So, step right up and be amazed.

Pick Up Sticks! - Beginner Double Staffs Workshop

Do you want to make shapes and patterns that mystify your audience? Do you want to try a prop you can explore and dance with? Double staff is a circus/flow arts prop that consists of two short staffs with weights on both ends. Alex will be teaching the basics of movement with one short staff and (hopefully) moving onto how those principles function when two staffs are used. Limited sets of double staffs will be provided for the workshop attendees. Meet near the effigy at 1pm on Friday.

Starting Your Poi Journey - Beginner Poi Workshop

Poi is an ancient Maori prop historically used in traditional Maori dance performances, but has more recently been adopted as a juggling/flow arts prop. It's roots are also traced back to glowstringing at raves in the 90's. Have you always wanted to try poi, but haven't had the chance? Maybe you have owned poi for years, but find it confusing and frustrating? This workshop is for you! Poi will be provided and all skills are welcome. Meet near the effigy on Saturday at 1pm.

Level Up Your Poi: Intermediate Poi Workshop

Looking to push your poi skills further? This workshop will look at slightly more complex poi concepts than the Saturday beginner workshop. We will also look at learning potential transitions between things you already know. Many people know several tricks, but have trouble getting from one to another smoothly. Much of this workshop will be based on the skill of the attendees and what they want to learn. Poi will be provided, all skill levels are welcome. Meet near the effigy on Sunday at 2pm.
